Welcome to the Kirwan Memory Laboratory in the Psychology Department and Neuroscience Center at Brigham Young University.
We study the brain mechanisms that allow you to remember the past and use those memories to guide your future actions. One question that occupies much of our time is "What information will we forget, and why?" To address this and other questions, we use a number of methods, including neuropsychological studies with memory-impaired patients, behavioral studies with healthy adults, and functional neuroimaging (fMRI) experiments. Our fMRI experiments are conducted at the MRI Research Facility on the BYU campus.
